One of the things I love about the way our curators have installed contemporary objects or exhibitions within the context of non-contemporary spaces are the unexpected visual parallels you can pick up. For instance, I was in the Pavilion for Japanese Art looking at Daido Moriyama’s Stray Dog, Misawa, Aomori (top image, second from left) that is part of Fracture: Daido Moriyama (on view through the end of this month), when my eye caught this thirteenth-century Elephant—a very dog-like elephant—visible from the next gallery.
